Get Rid of Yellow Nails With Easy & Effective Remedies

Yellow nails are one of the most common nail-related problems. They are the consequence of using too much nail polish. However, yellow nails can be signs of certain diseases. *Orange Peel

One of the most effective ways to fight yellow nails is using orange peels. The high content of vitamin C present in the orange peel can work to help you have beautiful and strong nails.

How to use:

  • Add two tablespoons of dried orange peel powder to some water and mix them with a paste.
  • Cover your nails with this paste and let it sit for at least 10 minutes.
  • Wash your nails with warm water to clean the paste; you can use a toothbrush to make it easier.
  • Repeat this twice daily for at least one week and see the progress.

You can also peel orange skins and rub them directly on your nail 2 – 3 times a day for some weeks to get satisfactory results.

*Tea Tree Oil

Antiseptic and antimicrobial properties in tea tree oil make it an excellent ingredient in treating yellow nails. It is also considered a natural fungicide capable of treating infection and recovering the colour of nails.

How to use:

  • Apply tea tree oil on your nails with the help of an eye dropper.
  • Let it sit for several minutes before washing it off with water.
  • Keep doing this two times a day for some months, and you will see positive results.

You can add some tea tree oil with some olive oil and then cover the solution for your nails. Repeat this two times a day for some months.


Lemon is another method you can apply to get rid of stains on the nail. It is a kind of bleaching agent and can act as an astringent.

How to use:

  • Soak your affected nails in a bowl of lemon juice.
  • Wait for at least 10 minutes before scrubbing the yellow strains with the help of a toothbrush.
  • Wash your nails with warm water.
  • Do this twice a day to see the positive changes.

*Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar contains some powerful acids like malic or acetic, which can decrease blemish nails. Antifungal properties in apple cider vinegar are also helpful in fighting nail infections, which contribute to stained nails.

How to use:

  • Add ½ cup of apple cider vinegar to ½ cup of warm water.
  • Dip your nail in this solution for at least 15 minutes.
  • Use a cotton cloth to dry your nails thoroughly
  • Follow this way about three times a day for at least one month to get the best result.


Another method to treat blemished nails is Listerine. Due to its high concentration of powerful ingredients, such as menthol, methyl salicylate, thymol, and eucalyptol which are antifungal, Listerine can fight fungal infections and gives you strong and beautiful nails and hands.

How to use:

  • Soak your nails with Listerine for 30 minutes. Bear in mind that 100% Listerine is the best.
  • Repeat this every day for one week, then stop for 1 week before continuing for the next 1 week. Don’t worry if the skin area around the nails can become green because it will fade away in some days.

Alternatively, add the same amount of Listerine to vinegar and soak your nails in the solution for 30 minutes. Keep doing this every day for several days, and the stains will disappear gradually.

*Whitening Toothpaste

Besides whitening your tooth, toothpaste can also give your nails a new look. If your nails have minor and mild stains, it can help you.

How to use:

  • Cover your nails with some whitening toothpaste.
  • Let it sit for 5 – 10 minutes.
  • Rinse your nails with warm water.
  • Keep doing this 2 – 3 times one week for one month.
